What is an adult home?
- An adult home is what people typically associate with assisted living. Adult Homes
are licensed by the New York Department of Health and operated
for the purpose of providing long-term residential care, room, board (three meals and a
nutritious snack per day), housekeeping, 24-hour personal care, a varied activity
schedule and 24-hour supervision to five or more adults unrelated to the operator.
The term Assisted Living can also be used for this level of care. Regulations require a
minimum staffing pattern depending on census, staff be on duty 24 hours a day and that
personal care services, including medication assistance, be available at any time.

What is a Look-Alike facility?
- There are adult care facilities that appear to be Adult Homes, appearing to offer many of the same services that we do,
however are not certified, licensed or regulated. The state allows Look-Alike facilities that offer services, but the service
provider must be licensed not the home. Example, if the resident needs personal care, then a licensed
home care agency must provide the personal care component. In Look-Alike facilities residents
will receive charges for these services over and above the home's charge. The home will charge
for the hotel type services such as room, meals and housekeeping. Personal care, monitoring or
medication management is provided by another provider and charged separately. These facilities are
commonly referred to as assisted living facilities.

What is the criteria for being in a facility of this type?
- Residents must be able to ambulate to and from meals, perform their own activities of daily living ie.,
personal grooming and hygiene and be continent of urine and bowel.

What is included in the price?
- Three meals a day, three snacks a day, housekeeping, laundry, two trips of transportation
a month, cable, medication management, scheduled activites, use of the facilities, and much more.

Is personal furniture permitted?
- Yes. Residents are encourgaged to bring a little bit of their home with them to ensure a
familiar feeling. We have found that a favorite chair, photographs of loved ones, special wall
hangings or other treasured belongings will quickly turn a room into a haven.

What happens when a resident needs a higher level of care?
- At that time we work closely with the individual's family and help them to find a facility suitabe for their family member.

Do we accept Medicaid or Medicare?
- No, we are a private pay facility.

Do we have transportation available?
- Yes, we have four drivers on call so a resident may be able to get to their appointments. Mountain Valley Manor
provides two transports to local doctor visits per month.

What is the general population like?
- Our residents here are active, some have walkers, others have canes, while some require none.
We also have some residents that are able to drive themselves.

Can the residents leave the facility at any given time?
- Yes, but we have a log book stationed at both entrances that we ask the residents to sign in
and out of.

Is there a nurse on site?
- Yes we have a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) on during the day and on-call the remainder of the time.

What appliances can residents have in their rooms?
- A small refrigirator is all that is allowed. No blow dryers, hot rollers, popcorn poppers.
